Haverstraw is a quiet cove whose name is derived from the Dutch word Haverstroo. The name refers to the grassy areas near the river, as the name literally means ‘oats straw’. The town exists to the west of the Hudson River, and it is north of Clarkstown and south of the Town of Stony Point.
