Blooming Grove is a town in Orange County, and it comprises an area of 35.3 miles square. Located in the middle of the county, it is situated to the southwest of Newburgh. Its rich history begins with its inception in 1721 as a settlement called Matthewsfield with a grist mill and was later formed into what became Cornwall. Its founders were the Matthews family, an early patriarch of whom was mayor during the Revolutionary War.
