Located in Rockland County, the CDP is northeast of Nanuet, northwest of West Nyack, south of New City and west of Valley Cottage. Bardonia residents can access New York City with buses. In 1849, John, Phillip and Conrad Bardon came to Bardonia from Bavaria and opened their own businesses. The CDP is named after them. When the railroad station was opened in 1875, John Bardon opened a store along the railroad. Unfortunately, the railroad is no longer there. John Bardon’s son, Henry Bardon, followed in his footsteps, opening a business of his own. The former Bardon Hotel was built by Henry Bardon in 1895.

The median age is relatively high at about 50.6, 32% higher than the New York average which sits around 38. Bardonia is home to many retirees.
